Men's Healing Retreat June 9-10, 2006
MacMullan Conference Center, Higgins Lake
The photos on the left were taken at the Men's Healing Retreat during June, 2006. Twelve men attended the two-day event where they learned how to be nurturing fathers and made commitments to their families to be the best fathers they can be.
There were four healing sessions where participants looked at their own fathers and how they were raised. Then they decided which parenting skills from their fathers to keep, which skills to discard, and what new skills to add. Finally, the men considered what they wished they had heard from their fathers and what they need to say to their children. Then, they made a commitment to their spouse and children as to the kind of father they will be.
During their leisure time the men played pool, went fishing or relaxed while reading a book. Four delicious meals were consumed, and after supper we enjoyed singing around the campfire.
One of the men, who is very accomplished at tying flies, gave us a demonstration. The men found this very interesting, and the fly-tying starter kits became the most sought after door prizes.
The dads enjoyed a day away from the routine, getting to know each other, and learning to become better fathers for their children. To learn more about our men's retreat, contact Brian DeKraker at 616-754-9315 or toll free 866-754-9315, ext. 3370.
